Cheers Standing
Has a Home

01/12/07- Cheers has a home!!  Steve and Paula Abbott had previously adopted another dog through BONE. They brought Gypsy with them to see how the two would get along. Gypsy did a few “get out of my face, dude” barks at Cheers, but that didn’t deter him. Cheers just wanted to play. By the time they got home and Cheers settled into his new home, the two were playing like old friends. Cheers is one lucky boy!

Original Story - 01/05/07- Cheers is an AWESOME dog! He has earned his name because he is the most cheerful dog I’ve ever met. He is approximately 1 year old, Beardie height, and weighs 45 pounds. Cheers is heartworm negative, up to date on all shots, and on Interceptor and Advantage.

At first look, Cheers appears to be a tri Beardie with a bit more tan markings than you would find wih most tri Beardies. However, his undercoat is dark brown and cream rather than gray and white, and his top coat is a very dark slate mixed with white. He has the Beardie white blaze on his face, a white chest, and white front legs and feet. He has the most expressive eyes. Cheers came into the shelter rather matted, so he had to be trimmed down in several places.

Cheers is housebroken and crate trained, but may need a housebreaking reminder in his new home. He is an energetic boy—all puppy—but after a good run in the backyard, he is content just to hang around inside. Cheers LOVES everyone—human, canine, and feline. He has been great with my Beardies, plays very gently with my ten pound Shih Tzu, and rubs faces with the kitties, although he generally will ignore the kitties unless they run.

Cheers is a great snuggler and likes to sleep on my bed at night. He gives wonderful kisses. Being a puppy, he still likes to chew, so I’ve been sure to provide him with appropriate chew toys and bones. He has NOT been destructive, so he’s earned the right to be free in our house when I'm home.  I do leave him in my gated kitchen when I’m gone as he had housebreaking accidents when given free run of the entire house, but does fine when confined to this smaller room.

Cheers needs some work on walking nicely on a leash and not jumping up, but he is smart and I believe he will learn quickly. Cheers is fine with older children, but might be a bit too rambunctious for younger children.

Cheers is looking for a home with a fenced backyard and a canine friend to play with.
