7/1/06 - Parker has a home! This sweet boy will have the company of two Golden Retrievers and a large fenced yard in which to play. His new family in Michigan has reported that he’s settling in nicely. He follows his new dad everywhere and is even beginning to show his playful side. Parker won’t have to worry about barbed wire or fending for himself anymore. He’s found his own forever family to love.
Original Story 06/14/06 - Parker was rescued from a kill shelter in Kentucky where he ended up with barbed wire matted into his tummy hair. OUCH! He has been clipped very short to rid his beautiful black coat of all the mats. Parker, also known as “Mister Mellow” appears to be a Beardie/spaniel mix. The “spaniel” part has added some ticking to his legs and a bit of wave to his coat which is more evident since he has been clipped down.
He is Beardie size and weighs 54 pounds. Parker is up to date on all shots, heartworm negative, and on Frontline and Interceptor. Parker’s house manners are impeccable! He’s not had any accidents nor offered to chew on anything he shouldn’t, so he’s earned the right to be loose in our house.
Parker is fine with the other dogs in our house, although he can be a bit “growly” with my intact male Beardie. He seems to adore our Shih Tzu puppy and I can often find the two of them curled up together. Parker is very quiet.
I’ve yet to hear him bark! He loves to be brushed, have his tummy rubbed, or be scratched behind the ears while he rests his head on your lap and looks at you with his soulful brown eyes.

Parker does NOT jump up on people, nor does he get on the furniture! Parker likes to keep me in sight and will follow me from room to room, but when I’m busy he’s content to find a corner to curl up in for a nap. Parker is just starting to learn about toys and how much fun they can be. He will chase a thrown toy, but doesn’t bring it back yet. If I go to get it from him, he gives it immediately.
| Parker also will take treats from my hand very gently. He has shown no food aggression with me or the other dogs. Parker likes to go for walks, |

but he needs a bit of work on walking without pulling. Parker’s only vice is that he has the Beardie trait of disliking storms or fireworks. He doesn’t panic, but just prefers to be inside at the first rumble of thunder or the first pop of a firecracker.
