4/17/05 - In Feb I was contacted by a rescuer from the Northern part of the US to take a look at a dog on Petfinder in the Hattiesburg, MS SPCA. Macky was listed as a female bearded Collie cross. Since I had dealt with this shelter before, I immediately contacted them and they put a hold on her. They were to spay her on Tuesday and I would pick her up on Wednesday. On Tuesday morning the Shelter called and said Macky couldn't be spayed but they were going to neuter him and was I still interested in him. I laughed and said of course, I would still be there on Wednesday. Macky stayed with us until mid April and was adopted due to a lady in NJ seeing him on the web site and contacting her mother who lives on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. When Heather Briggs (Macky's new mom along with Kevin his new dad) first saw the info on the web site they couldn't believe it. It turns out they have 3 dogs already. A rescue Scotty and two rescue/rehome Beardie girls. The two girls happen to be litter sisters and also happen to be litter sisters of our Coleen. We have known Heather and Kevin for 12 years. So this is one time I have absolute knowledge of how good a home a dog is going to and these people are the very best. Macky's new name is now Dexter and he is living the good life in South Mississippi. Original Story 3/23/05 Male, Neutered, Puppy, about 9 Months old, small. HW Negative and up to date on vaciniations. Absolutely delightful A real cuddler and cute as a button. Loves people and kids. Sometimes jealous of other dogs. Macky was found running loose in Hattiesburg, MS and the family who found him kept him for about 2 weeks. They turned him into the shelter because, they said, he was food aggressive and dog aggressive. He didn't get along with their two dogs. The shelter saw no signs of this and my experience has been basically the same.
He needs to go as he is becoming too comfortable here. And he cannot stay. Plays with my 2 Beardies and is cat friendly. I have watched him and Belle lying on the floor head to head with both having bones and gnawing away with no problems. He has twice gotten sharp with other dogs, but both times I realized it was when he was first here and I went to pet the other dog. He did not bite, but did send them packing jealousy. The 'I have a human now and I don't want to share' syndrome. He still comes up if I pet the other dogs but isn't aggressive. He is still a bit of a velcro dog and shows a little jealousy, to be expected , but not particularly a problem. All in all, he is a very wonderful dog and will make someone a super pet.
