Joey in Illinois
Has a Home

8/12/05: Joey went to his new home . He will live with new mom Tina & her 12-year-old beardie girl "Roo" in Stevens Point, WI. We drove over the WI/IL border to meet Tina & her mom & as they came toward Joey, Tina stopped, put her hand on her heart & announced she was going to cry. Joey exceeded all expectations & he seemed to know she was his new mom, as he greeted her enthusiastically & happily went off with her!! Tina is an experienced dog person with 2 sisters who are into dogs, too - one owns a training/grooming facility & Joey is already signed up for agility, which he will excel at. This boy is as smart as he is cute. Tina asked us how he got his name & I explained that his first rescuer had bestowed it on him & it fit, so we hadn't changed it, but she certainly could & she said no, the name was part of the draw, since she has a "Roo" & Joeys are baby kangaroos!! All reports are that he is behaving himself & has already learned to play fetch. This was another of those meant-to-be placements, I'm convinced!! Tina even gave us a thank you note penned by Joey, along with some toys & treats for our dogs, to thank us for giving Joey care & finding him a home. People like Tina make the rescue work worthwhile & then some. Special thanks to Judy Barnette & her courtesy listing of Joey on Petfinder, because that's how Tina's sister spotted him & told Tina she'd found "her dog"!!!

Original Story 6/20/05 - Joey is a 2-3 year old male collie/terrier mix that is one very happy fellow.  He loves to play & he's dog friendly.  He likes to chase birds, so best guess is that he's probably not good with cats.  He is heartworm negative & UTD on all his shots, & he's housebroken.

He does need some obedience training, but all in all, he's quite well-behaved & very affectionate.  He weighs about 33 lbs. & has a shaggy coat - it looks like he's had a haircut, but it's still about 3-4" long & could grow longer.  Joey is awfully fast on his feet, so he's going to need a fenced yard.  The pictures don't do this boy justice; he is as cute as can be, with a black fringe of hair over his dark eyes.

He's a great companion looking for his forever home.
