Bear in Alabama
Has a Home

10/10/05 -
Having just placed two rescue Beardies in a fabulous home in Texas, I was just not ready for another rescue.  Within days I received word that a Beardie had been placed in a Mobile, AL shelter and needed to be taken out.  I contacted the shelter, explained who I was and that I would drive to Mobile to pick up the dog they were calling "Stanton." It seems that Stanton had been left at a vet's office because his family was moving and couldn't keep him in their apartment.  Much time passed and Stanton remained at the vet.  No family ever appeared to retrieve him.  The vet eventually placed him in the shelter after having neutered him, microchipped him, and provided all the necessary shots. When I arrived to check Stanton out, I knew right away that there was definitely Beardie in there somewhere:  white tip on the tail, white front, white front legs and four white feet, an itty bitty spray of white on the muzzle, but the rest was black with some tan.  He had been shaved because he had been so matted, so I couldn't say he was a black and white tri. Home he went with me, and I began the process of listing Stanton, now called Bear, on the website.  No takers.  Days passed into weeks, and by this time my husband had started calling him Goofy, as he reminded him so much of Goofy in the Mickey Mouse cartoons.  He was a real love machine, and adored all the attention we gave him.  Bear became Goofy, and remains so today. He is now a part of our family, and has fallen in love with our son.  When Will comes home, Goofy is beside himself; when Will leaves, he stands at the door and whines.  That's love.  So, to the four cats, two Beardies and a Tibetan Spaniel, we have added our own Neardie, and he brings us joy every day.

Original Story 4/1/05Bear is a Beardie mix (Neardie) rescued from the Mobile, Alabama SPCA after he was abandoned by his owners at a vet's office.  He was turned over to SPCA after the owner failed to return or pay the vet bill.  Bear is an active youngster, approximately a year to 18 months old.  He is neutered, heartworm negative and microchipped.  He is full of energy and gets along well with other dogs both inside and out.  He loves to play, especially with another dog and he loves people as well.  Because he is a youngster, he needs some training, but he has come a long way and is a quick learner.
