Jamie with Nancy

Has a Home

September 18, 2003 - Shawn drove (a little over two hours) to meet Nancy and hand Jamie over to her new mom. Jamie, our hearing impaired neardie has a home. Her new mom drove from Palm Springs to get her.

About a week ago when Shawn and I were discussing moving Jamie to my house, Shawn made a wish upon a star, a "wouldn't it be great" request. And SOMEONE heard her because then we got a forwarded email of a couple looking for a female neardie.

I started with the usual, we have this female BUT she has a hearing
problem. Well they came back with tell me more. So we began an email conversation. I told her all I knew about Jamie and deaf dogs (I've had three of my own and several fosters). I told her Jamie needed some serious training and that my take on her was that she probably equaled a foster child that just went from here to there and really didn't focus on much because she figured she would must move on anyway. Jamie had adopted the life of a vagabond of sorts.

I told Nancy that we would have Jamie's ears checked to see if there is a visible problem (wax way down there, scar tissue, membrane). She asked if there would be any reason she could not still adopt Jamie. Since Nancy kept coming back for more information. Then Shawn emailed her with her own info on Jamie and Julie also sent info from when Jamie stayed with her. By
this time Nancy had decided she wanted Jamie. She ordered books on deaf dogs, training books, talked to her neighbors and they sent Jamie's photos out to friends and family.

Then we told her where Jamie was. (holding our breath). That's no
problem. My parents live near there. I'll drive up tomorrow and meet Shawn and pick up Jamie. We'll stop along the way and see the sights and bond while we are traveling.

Jamie - we wish you well in your new home with a family to call your very own, for tons of attention and tummy rubs. You gain an extended family that already knows you and neighborhood dog buddies to come play. The best to you Jamie. You deserve this new life.

Jamie legs shaved

6/28/03 Jamie was been adopted by Julie in LA who had a shaggy dog when she was growing up and has always wanted another one. She later returned to rescue because she played too rough.

Original Story 6/22/03 - This sweetie's shelter name was J-Lo but we are calling her Jamie. This cute little Neardie girl is about 1 year old, spayed and up to date on shots. She gets along with my dogs but would be fine as an only dog too. She is curious about cats but not aggressive. She is house trained and will sit for cookies. Jamie could use some basic obedience classes but is food motivated so she'd be a willing pupil!

Jamie Face She is frisky but not hyper and is easy to have around. The shelter shaved her legs because of fox tails so she was put in a puppy cut to even her out a bit. Jamie is an adorable shaggy girl who will look even better when she grows out!
