2/3/03 "Libby"
is a two year old Neardie who was left at a Mississippi shelter because
her owners were moving. She was adopted shortly afterwards, but returned
to the shelter along with several other dogs which her adoptive mom could
no longer care for.
Several weeks passed, and no one adopted Libby. Then a wonderful thing
happened. A rescue person, Carol Descher, posted to us that there was
a Neardie in the Mississippi shelter. Could BONE help? As there was no
one in that area, potential adopters in surrounding states were notified.
BINGO! Christie in Alabama had been waiting for a Neardie for some time
and she jumped at the offer of Libby, even though the dog was more than
8 hours of driving away. Judy Barnette in Ohio and Barb Makris in CA worked
together to arrange the rescue of Libby from the shelter, transportation
and a home check. Pam Weims performed a home check the day AFTER Libby
arrived in her new home and reports that the match was a perfect one,
right down to Libby loving the resident cat!
Libby is heartworm positive, and BONE has generously agreed to pay for
the treatment. Without BONE, this dog never would have gotten out of the
shelter, received veterinary care, spaying, etc. Thanks BONE.
