Trinket in Wyoming

Has a Home

11/16/01 - Trinket is safe and sound in her forever home in Alaska. She came cargo on Alaska Airlines, and has her own mileage plan account now. Considering its been in the single digits since she arrived, I think she's planning a vacation in Hawaii soon. For the first week, Trinket was practically perfect and I thought I'd special ordered her out of a catalog. She worked so hard to fit in and deal with her two new bratty sisters, Merry (belgian sheepdog) and Pippen (chow-husky).

I had some anxiety about adding a third dog to our pack, but Pippen explained that she was queen, and then took Trinket under her paw-so to speak. She's still trying to teach Trink how to use the dog door without asking permission. Merry explained that we had no room for a third dog, but Trinket is slowly worming her way into Merry's affections.

I think the swollen eye Merry came in with the other day also went a long way to speeding the acceptance process. Merry was teaching her how to chase squirrels in the campground yesterday, and I caught them sharing the loveseat last night!

Being a very intelligent dog, now that Trinket is assured the middle spot in bed is hers, she's beginning to test the limits. She's the first dumpster diver I've ever had, but she decided if the chicken in her dinner was good for her, it would be waste to let that nice carcass sit in the trash can. She's also decided its a real waste of space having a passenger seat empty in the van and there's really no reason she can't ride up front with me, rather than in back with the two brats. We're currently in negotiations. We went for a group run with my friend and her 3 Gordon Setters on Saturday and Trinket loved frolicking with my friend's 7 mos. puppy. I've even walked all 3 on flexi's at the same time, and they did just fine.

Trink gets along fabulously with everyone, loves to go anywhere, and is an absolute sweetheart. Everyone comments "what a cutie" "what a sweetheart" and "what big feet". The vet said if she was a puppy, he'd tell me to prepare for a newfie-sized dog based on the size of her paws.I just tell everyone she came with her own snowshoes. We're all thinking the top half is beardie and the bottom half is Portugese Water Dog.

She seems very happy here and we're certainly happy to have her. Our thanks to BONE and to Annette, the Australian cattle dog rescue lady in Wyoming, who saved Trinket from the pound and fostered her for all those months.

Original story 6/25/01
Trinket is a 4 year old spayed Neardie. She is Beardie in size and temperament. Trinket is house trained and behaves like a perfect angel in the house. She is a sweet girl. Trinket was owner surrendered to the local shelter because they were moving.

She was at the shelter for a very long time and was next to be euthanized. I offered to groom her to see if that would help her get adopted. She looked and smelled terrible. I took her from the shelter and groomed her and never took her back. I couldn't. She is far too nice a dog. Trinket LOVES the water. Sprinklers, hoses you name it. She loves to play in the water. She will chase my kitty if he runs but is otherwise harmless. She does chase the squirrels in the back yard. She is black with some white. Before her haircut she was very Beardie looking. Perhaps a bit curlier on the legs. She has had all of her vaccinations.
