Mike now lives the Life of Riley with Dave' Warren-Taylor and
16-year-old Spanky (another "Benji dog" type mix) in Abilene,
KS. Dave' read
about Mike on the BONE site, filled out an application, and emailed
me. We had
several long talks about the little guy, and she decided he (at age
11) would be
the perfect younger companion for Spanky. Every other week or so I get
emails
with half a dozen pictures of a very happy, smiling Mike -- Mike chewing
a bone
and smiling, Mike lounging on the floor and smiling, Mike riding in
the car and
smiling. He has a bucketload of toys that he doesn't have to share with
three
obnoxious Beardies (mine), and he LOOOOVES his new mom!
(02/14/01)Mike is a sweet, happy, affectionate little terrier mix,
about 40 pounds and 17" high. He's 11 years old, healthy, and up to
date on all his shots. He is a little hard of hearing -- I don't think
he's totally deaf, but he does respond well to hand signals and doesn't
spook when touched to get his attention. He gets along with kids and
most other animals (including rabbits), loves belly rubs and hanging
out on the couch, and doesn't require a lot of exercise. He doesn't
pull on a leash and rides well in the car, crated or uncrated.
| Here's his story: He used to live in Virginia, where
his loving family took him to the vet to be put down just because
they didn't feel like keeping him any more. The vet asked to put
him into rescue instead, and they consented. Mike has been misidentified
as a blue Beardie -- it's on his vet records -- and so he came into
Beardie Rescue in Virginia. Since we have a waiting list of about
40 people for rescue Beardies in New England, he was shipped to
me sight unseen. I'd keep him anyway, but my three dogs pick on
him mercilessly. He doesn't need to be an only dog, but he might
prefer it. |
