6/9/01 - Micki, the Neardie boy from Massachusetts, is home with his
new mom, Susan Brown, in Vermont. Yes, there is a magic to this boy!
After several hundred dollars worth of kenneling, more than 130 email
messages, nearly 400 miles of driving and a bag of bones later, Micki
has found a joyous new home. This is the home that he was always meant
to be in -- it was love at first sight.
I drove him from Swansea, MA (at the RI border) to Brattleboro, VT to
the McDonald's ( of course!) parking lot. I just got him out of the
car and Susan zoomed over to me and Micki bounced to her! Yes, I tell
the truth. His enthusiasm and joy with her and her friend, Mary, was
a delight to witness. He play bowed, he rolled over to have his tummy
scratched and he started leaning on both of them as soon as his feet
hit the ground. It was so amazing. Whenever someone asks me why I would
rescue dogs, I will think of Micki. I drove away with him in the back
seat of the car being hugged by Susan, while Mary was driving. I could
barely see Susan because of the fluffy tail wagging so furiously. I
believe I even heard a few slurps as I pulled out onto Route 5.
There is magic, friends, and it is in dog rescue, is it not?

Original Story 6/1/01: Micki is a lovey-dovey boy about 7 years
old and intact. He stands 21 inches at the shoulder and is 20"
long from that place on his shoulders to his butt. He is graceful like
a beardie and friendly as a beardie. He's a gray/black coated boy with
white on his feet and tip-o-his-tail. He wags, he leans, he slurps and
is a general all around great guy. He is reported to be excellent with
little kids and cats as well as other dogs. He jumped right in the car,
knew what going for a ride was all about.
| He is a sweet, sweet boy with no alpha requirements
or obvious socialization problems. His hair loss is around his face
and eyes (making his little bearded collie face so cute!), his chest
and his pits. It looks like an allergy to me. He has no training.
So, sit, stay, pay and down are irrelevant to him, but he is quite
willing to learn to do anything you want to try and please you. |
|
| One cautionary note was passed along to me: the shelter
reported him as vicious. I don't know what they meant by that, but
nothing, and I repeat this word most emphatically, nothing that
I saw today, told me that he was vicious or even weird. For the
life of me, I couldn't find anything that was even remotely cranky
about him, let alone anything else. He has my unqualified, unreserved
hurrah! for another lover, not a fighter type dog. |
