| Karen Norteman was alerted to Eloise by Marilynn Snook. The rest of
that story is pretty simple. Karen saw her picture- a 1 1/2 year old, 35
pound, mix - and called the shelter, which was on the PA/MD border. Mekeel
McBride, Eloise's new mom, is a professor at UNH and a published poet.
She had lost her elderly Neardie, Sunshine, a couple of years ago, and
had asked Karen to keep an eye out for another Neardie girl.
Eloise was in foster care with a trainer, who was teaching her some house manners before adoption. Turns out that the trainer was planning to come to Maine for a seminar anyway, so when Mekeel finished all of the adoption paperwork with the shelter, the trainer drove up to Maine and delivered her new pup to her. It was LOVE at first sight for both of them. Eloise gets along with Mekeel's terrier mix and her 8 cats, and now she lives in a house on the water and enjoys walks through town every day! She may get to go to class with her mom when school starts again, and she might well get to go to college! Sorry , things were so busy - we are sure of the exact adoption date - Late April or Early May. Karen Norteman karenn@cascobay.East.Sun.COM |
