Murphy - Missippi
(was Shaggy)
Has a Home

10/22/2002 Murphy was brought to Southern Pines Amimal Shelter in Hattiesburg, MS by the Animal Control Warden. He had sarcoptic mange and had lost a significant amount of hair. Surprisingly, the very next day, a nice young couple came to the shelter to look. Something about Murphy caught their eye despite the mange. They really wanted him. They were asked to wait until his treatment was finished, but they would not. He was dipped in paramite that day and they went ahead and made an appointment with their vet to continue his treatment. Murphy was adopted. A couple of months later guess who shows back up in an animal control truck. He was running at large again and his owners could not be found. They had moved and not updated their contact information. After another three or four weeks at the shelter another nice young couple came to adopt a dog and Murphy caught their eye. They adopted him, but being inexperienced dog owners, they could not handle his energy level and intelligence so he was quickly returned.

A number of people came across Murphy's picture on Petfinders at about the same time. Judy Barnett e-mailed me and asked if anyone had checked him out. At about the same time, Wendy Amos saw his picture and called the shelter. Even though Wendy had called the shelter before I did, she very willingly worked with BONE to find Murphy a new permanent home. When the decision was made that Murphy should go to her, Wendy did it all. She arranged with professional pet transporters to pick Murphy up, and deliver him to Seattle, Washington where she was to take him into Canada, his new home land. This whole scenario took another three weeks. He was reassured everyday by the shelter staff that he was soon to leave, and that helped to keep him sane. Today Murphy is living a life of luxury and it is well deserved. Thanks to Wendy Amos this wonderful animal has found the home he so deserved, albeit thousands of miles away. Thanks also to all of the staff at the Southern Pines Animal Shelter. Even though this is a county shelter and a kill shelter, their first goal is to find every dog a good home. And they will go out of their way to do so. I have worked with them on 3 rescues so far, and they are willing to go the extra mile to help their wards.
