THE 2007
BEARDED COLLIE NATIONAL ART/PHOTO CONTEST
TO BE HELD IN CONJUNCTION WITH
THE 2007 BEARDED COLLIE NATIONAL SPECIALTY
October 1 thru October 6

You are invited to enter our art show competition!  Even if you can’t attend the Specialty in person, this gives you an opportunity to participate, and an opportunity for us to see your special Beardies.

CATEGORIES OF COMPETITION :

  1. Black-and White Photography: Black-and-white printed photographs of Beardies
  2. Color Photography: Color printed photographs of Beardies
  3. Art: including paintings, drawings, and sculptures.
  4. Crafts, including needlework, clothing, quilts, stained glass, or other handmade items.

The rules for each category are specified below.

ENTRY DEADLINES :

Art and Photo entries must be received by the Art Show Chair no later than 5 p.m. September 15, 2007.  They may be shipped directly to the Art Show Chair's home address for delivery on or before September 15, 2007 or hand delivered to the Show Chair by Wednesday October 3, by noon.  All entry forms must be received, and all entry fees fully paid by the entry deadline of 5 p.m. September 15 along with return mailing fees (if applicable). No exceptions will be made.

AWARDS :

The four categories of competition will be divided into the following division:
AMATEUR, PROFFESSIONAL and KIDS UNDER 12 YEARS OLD

1st thru 4th ribbons in each category/division
Judge’s Choice Award – the judge will pick their overall favorite entry
Peoples’ Choice Award – visitors will vote during the week long specialty for their choice. The entry with the most votes will win people’s choice award. 

GENERAL RULES :

  1. PERSONAL CREATION: All entries must be the sole personal work of the entrant.
  2. AMATEUR vs. PROFESSIONAL STATUS: An entrant will be deemed a professional within a category if he/she has earned or won more than $500 from work done within that category. Note that it is possible for a person to be considered a professional in one category, but still be an amateur in a different category.
  3. LIABILITY: Although due precaution will be taken to avoid loss or damage to the entries, neither the Art Show Chair, the NCBCC, the BCCA, or the Holiday Inn will assume any responsibility or liability in the event of any loss or damage. Warning: entries may be hung or displayed causing harm to the mounting.
  4. QUESTIONS: Any questions may be directed to the Art Show Chair either via telephone or e-mail. The Art Show Chair will be solely responsible for resolving any issues that may arise; and all entrants agree to abide by the Chair’s decision.
  5. ENTRY: Entrants may elect one of four categories for their entries, as shown on the entry form. The category for each entry MUST be indicated on the entry form.
  6. RETURN ENTRY METHOD:  The entrant may choose one of the following four methods for return of the entry:
    • The entrant may wish the items shipped back to the entrant, in which case mailing expenses and appropriate container must have been supplied to the Art show chair along with the entry form by September 15, no exceptions.
    • The entrant may wish to have the item returned to the entrant in person, in which case arrangements must be made to pick up the item near the conclusion of the show at times shown below.
    • The final  would be to give some other person permission to pick up the item at the show. (Permission is given by writing the other person's name on the back of the entry form.
    • The entrant may wish to simply abandon the entry to be given away or discarded.

Entries may be picked up from the Art display room NO EARLIER than 10 a.m. Saturday, October 6. Entries must be picked up NO LATER than 3 p.m. Saturday, October 6.  Entries not picked up or shipped by 3 p.m. Saturday, October 6, will be deemed to have been abandoned and then Rule 9 will Apply.

SPECIAL RULES FOR EACH CATEGORY:

            PHOTOGRAPHY (film and digital Both Black-and-white and Color Categories):

    1. Photos must be matted or flush mounted. The front of mounted photo must not have any marking in the frame area around the photo. Warning: entries may be hung or displayed causing harm to the back mounting.
    2. The matted or mounted work must have outside dimensions of no smaller than 5X7, and no larger than 18X22.
    3. Show winner's photos or any photos showing dog show judges will not be acceptable
    4. Any recognizable people in the photos must be members of the entrant’s immediate family. Otherwise, photos with recognizable people may not be entered unless accompanied by a copy of a standard photographic release form signed by each non-family-member person in the photo.
    5. The entrant’s name and address must be entered on the back of each photo. (Sticking a pre-printed address label on the back of each photo will meet this requirement.
    6. Photos and the entry forms and fees (plus any release forms) may be shipped to the Art chair’s home address, as long as they will arrive no later than September 15, 2007.Hand delivered photos will also be accepted at the hotel by the Art Show Chair before October 3rd noon. All entries with full entry fees and any release forms must be received no later than 5 p.m. on September 15, 2007.
    7. All photo entries will be on display in the Art Show display room opened during the course of the National Specialty.

            ARTS AND CRAFTS:

    1. All other types of Beardie-related art work not specifically mentioned above shall be entered in the "ARTS" or "CRAFTS" classification.
    2. Flat pieces such as paintings, pastels, etc., must be matted or flush mounted or on stretcher bars. (No frames please)
    3. No signatures or other identifiers should be visible on the pieces entered.
    4. Matted work and small pieces may be shipped to the Art Show Chair at her home address, as long as they arrive there no later than September 15, 2007. Art entries may also be hand delivered to the Show Chair at the hotel. All entries must be received no later than noon, October 3rd, 2007.
    5. Please identify each piece submitted with a name and mailing address attached to some hidden part of the piece.
    6. All Art and Crafts category entries will be on display in the Art Show display room during the course of the National Specialty.
